A total of 1136 horses have been exported this year from Iceland. Most of them go to Germany, or 444, and then 151 to Sweden. In comparison 1158 horses were exported in 2010.
 

The Horseclub Sörli had planned to held his yearly icetourmament on the lake Hvaleyrarvatni tomorrow the 5th of January. The tournament had to be cancelled today because the tractor which was supposed to clean the snow from the frozen lake broke through the ice.

Farmers in Skagafjörður let this year more of their horses slaughter because of the bad hay harvest caused by a cold spring and a wet summer. The farmers don't have enough hay for their animals.

At the Icelandic Championship (Íslandsmót) that was held this summer in Selfoss Elvar Einarsson and Kóngur frá Lækjamóti broke the record in 250 m Pace Race, their time was 21.89 seconds.

Like we have mentioned here before at Hófapressan the Breeding horse conference 2011 will be held at Hotel Saga in Reykjavik next Saturday. It will be interesting to listen to Kristinn Guðnason, the chairman of the breeding association of Iceland.

Horse breed Conference 2011 will be held at the Saga Hotel, Saturday 19th of  November, starting at 13:00.  The conference is open to all who are interested in Icelandic breeding, professionals well as enthusiasts.

Ólafur says that the animal cruelty cases that have been discussed in recent days suggest that the offshoot of this activity has come to Iceland. He says the importance of the prohibition of sexual contact with animals should be legalized in this country, but such provisions are contained in the (palament) on animal welfare, which is hoping to become a law this winter.

Horse harvest took place on Broadway last night and it was great glory. It was a big year in the horse competition and a lot to celebrate throw out the year. Agenda for the evening was typical. Haraldur Þórarinsson welcomed everyone and officially launched the festival. Thereafter, headwaiter and actor, Halldór Gylfason took the (reins).
